Physical Education
Physical Education Statement of Intent:
At St Helen's Primary Academy we teach Physical Education in a way which gives our children the opportunity to be inclusive, to enjoy and make progress regardless of knowledge, ability or backgrounds. We allow the children to be inquisitive and explore a range of different sports and encourage children to be given new experiences and embrace new learning opportunities, which allows them to be innovation. We also promote the benefits of physical activity and the positive effect this can have on our personal health.
Implementation
The P.E curriculum at St Helen’s Primary Academy is as broad and ambitious as the 2014 Primary National Curriculum in England, which provides a framework and outlines the knowledge and skills taught in each key stage. Through a carefully designed programme from the P.E Hub, from Nursery to Year 6, children participate in and understand the need to have regular physical activity which meets the NHS guidance of 60 active minutes per day. Children are supported through a range of physical activities and games to develop their personal and interpersonal skills, supporting them in facing all challenges in life in a positive manner. The curriculum is knowledge and skills based and links with school values through 3 main focuses in lesson of ‘ Head, Hands and Heart’ .
Impact
We measure the impact of our curriculum through the following methods:
Interviewing the pupils about their learning (pupil voice).
Formative assessment methods
Progress meetings
Photo evidence and images of the pupils practical learning.
Video analysis through recording of performance in lessons.
