School Council

School Council

At Newington Academy we are incredibly proud of our School Council!

There are two representatives from each year group from Year One to Year Six with a grand total of twenty-four Councillors.

We meet at least twice a half term with Mrs Pinnell to discuss initiatives that are happening in school and to contribute our ideas to make our school the best school there is.

Some of the initiatives we have been responsible for organising include

· Children in Need

· Harry Potter Day

· World Book Day

· Comic Relief

· Sport Relief

· Race for Life

· Non Uniform Days

· Halloween Disco

· Smoke Free School Poster Competition

· 100 Million Minutes Reading Competition

We are also involved in negotiating which extra-curricular clubs are offered across school. We ask our classes during circle time the sorts of clubs they would like to take part in and then feed that back as part of school council meetings. One of the clubs which we have helped to implement is the ‘Book Buddies’ club for Key Stage 1 and Year 5 and 6.

As well as meeting on lunchtime we also give up some of our lunchtimes to look for ‘Golden Conduct’ on the playground and dining hall. Names are collected of children displaying exemplary behaviour and kindness and certificates are awarded in Assembly on a termly basis.

We are ALL very proud to be part of Newington Academy’s School Council.

Meeting our CEO, Mr Drinkall was certainly a highlight of 2020. He really enjoyed hearing all about our school.

A full School Council meeting and discussion is in session.

Here we are looking for 'Newington Golden Conduct' at lunchtime.

We have even visited London to take part in Comic Relief Competitions.

Our visit to the Guildhall to take tea with the Lord Mayor of Hull.
