Our community

We are incredibly proud of our school and the role it has played in our local community - goodness knows it has been a time of huge change as the pictures below serve to remind us!

After a long (and often interrupted) period of regeneration , Woodcock Street and the estates surrounding the school have shaken off their 'Little Beirut' name-tag and emerged as a place of aspiration and community spirit.

Newington Academy is a vital hub of that community and we are proud to serve such an ethnically diverse and exciting part of the city. We are especially proud of our strong links to the historic Hull fishing industry and have played a major part in keeping alive those memories and using the school and it's pupils to celebrate the memories of our ancestors.

A long series of interactive community-based arts projects culminated in us taking part in the Hessle Road mural project with our pupils names being etched forever within the local artworks!

We have an 'open-door' policy in school so please feel free to arrange a visit or tour with our reception team and make sure you keep up to date with everything else that we offer including:

Adult Education courses to help people improve their literacy and numeracy skills

Parent and Toddler groups to offer support and friendship to local families

Coffee Pop-in sessions

Community Bingo evenings

School Fairs open to all

Seasonal parties for local residents

Harvest Festival gifts to local pensioners and families in need.

If you have an idea on how we can expand our community profile please use the contact us button or call the academy office on 01482 305630 - we are always happy to hear your ideas.
