Art and Design
Statement of Intent
At Lift Newington our intention is to inspire our children as artists, nurture their talent and interests, and express their ideas and thoughts about the world in a creative manner.
Art and Design Curriculum
At Lift Newington, we follow the Kapow Primary’s Art and design scheme of work. Within our Long term plan, all five strands of the National Curriculum are met throughout the year. Our children will develop their’ skills and knowledge within Art and design, whilst also providing a fun, memorable, diverse and engaging learning experience
It is designed with four key areas of teaching that run throughout every year group and aims to inspire pupils and develop their confidence to experiment and invent their own works of art.
These are:
Drawing- Children explore mark making in all its forms, experimenting with line, tone and textures and using a wide range of materials. They also use sketchbooks to record and observe and learn how artists develop their ideas using drawings.
Painting and mixed media - Children develop painting skills including colouring mixing, painting on a range of surfaces and with different tools. Children also explore the interplay between different media within an artwork.
Sculpture and 3D - Children will investigate way to express their ideas in three-dimensions while using a variety of materials to achieve an outcome.
Craft and Design - Children will design and make art for different purposes, considering how this works in different industries Children will also learn new making techniques comparing these and making decisions about which to use to achieve a particular outcome.
The Kapow Art scheme of work enables our children to develop their knowledge and skills through the use of sketchbooks for recording and developing ideas and taking inspiration from a wide range of artists. They will be able to develop, refine and progress their skills by revisiting the 4 key areas every year and build on prior learning within these. The diverse nature of the work produced is celebrated in displays throughout the school.
