Prerequisites:

Successful completion of Chinese 9 Language and Literature, and/or placement test. Placement in the Honors section of this course requires: Completion of all assigned honors summer work; Teacher recommendation based on Q1 performance and grade (minimum B+ and above). Honors placement is finalized after Q1.

Course Description:

This course is a continuation of the Chinese Language Arts program and is open to native or near-native speakers. Through the study of selected texts from a variety of genres, the course prepares students for the Chinese IB A Language and Literature two-year IB program. Emphasis is placed on literary analysis of the works studied, which encourages students to appreciate different perspectives and the stylistic and aesthetic qualities of the texts. The major assignments will be commentaries, creative writing and oral presentations.

Literature studied in this course includes works of the following authors: Cao Yu, and Victor Marie Hugo. Students taking this course for Honors credit will be required to complete supplemental assignments and will be assessed with an Honors-level rubric.
