Prerequisites:

Successful completion a semester of Drawing and Painting, Graphic Art or Design, and Instructor approval

Description

This semester course is designed for students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art, have completed the necessary prerequisites, and who are able to record from direct observation. They will explore skills to compose in two and/or three dimensions. The students will engage in the experimentation of a range of media, materials and techniques. They will develop knowledge and understanding of the formal aspects and working methods of various genres of art; drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and photography. All this knowledge and experience will be shown in fully developed A2 sketchbook sheets forming a portfolio that demonstrates concentration (sustained investigation), breadth (range of approaches) and quality (selected works that exhibit a synthesis of form, technique, and content). Ideas and development will evolve through investigation and experimentation gained from direct observation and personal response to a theme. Students will develop a critical awareness by furthering their knowledge in International Art History and Art Criticism.

This course is offered as a vital step before IB Visual Arts or as a higher level holistic Art course for students that wish to further their skills.
