Description:

This year-long course offers 12th grade students the opportunity to gain an Honors credit by exploring the art of theatre in theory and practice.

Theater 2 is addressed to students who want to be actively engaged in theater-making. Theory will address contemporary trends of theater and students will create from scratch several projects in the style of 20th century theater practitioners like B. Brecht, S. McBurney, R. Lepage and more. They will take part in devising a performance on a subject of their choice, they will explore a chosen theater theorist in practice and finally they will develop a director’s notebook on a published theater text. Keeping a journal of reflections and participating in theater trips and after school rehearsals are essential parts of the course.

IB students will be Internally and Externally assessed on the following coursework: Research Presentation, Collaborative Theater Project Portfolio, Director’s Notebook and Solo Theater Piece (HL only).

Components Used for IB Prediction: IB predictions are based on the Research Presentation, completed in June of the first year and the Collaborative Theater Project, completed during January Mock Exams.

*Assessment is aligned with the IBO course assessment requirements.
