Prerequisite:

Successful completion of ESL 1 and appropriate score on Middle School exit test for returning students, or appropriate score on the ACS Athens Placement Test for new students.

Course Description:

This course focuses on developing language skills for students approaching a higher level of intermediate English proficiency. Language development is combined with building media literacy and sharpening skills transferable to core subjects. Students learn to apply advanced grammar structures and academic vocabulary to increasingly demanding reading, writing, listening and speaking activities. Emphasis is placed on expository and narrative essay writing, interpretive reading and summarizing. Students also further develop skills in literary analysis and research skills. Oral skills are developed through presentations and group discussions. IELTS Academic Module preparation is introduced for students who may require this credential. The course corresponds to the B1+ towards B2 level of CEFR.
