The 7th grade French program is not an exploratory program. Students have class everyday all year for 40-45 minutes and it is considered an academic subject. Students will follow a two-year sequence of that language. They will complete Level 1A in 7th grade followed by Level 1B in 8th grade. Students who successfully complete both years may take level II at the high school. Students continue their study of the language by expanding and building on their knowledge from 7th grade. Students will receive homework most nights as well as preparing for quizzes, tests, and projects. Their grades will be based on the ACFTL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) Standards in:
Interpersonal - Conversations between two or more people
Presentational - Speaking and Writing
Interpretive - Listening and Reading Comprehension
Language Comparison - Grammar and Vocabulary
Cultural - Practices and Perspectives
The focus of the program is to have students learn to use the target language to communicate about their daily lives and activities. During the year, students will gain an insight into other cultures through readings, music, food, art and various projects. Students are encouraged to use the target language whenever possible in the classroom. Students are required to keep an organized notebook.
