5th Grade World Language

In the 5th grade World Language Program students study both French and Spanish as part of their Unified Arts Rotation. They will have class every other day for a quarter of the school year. Students spend 11 days learning some simple French phrases and 11 days learning some Spanish phrases. This will help them decide which language they would like to continue in 6th grade. Students are graded on their listening comprehension and speaking skills. In class, they are introduced to expressions in both languages through stories, songs, games and videos. All work is done in class and there is no homework.

There will be an Oral assessment using both languages. Students have a short conversation in French or Spanish with Mrs. Vicenzi. Everyday in class we will practice the questions and answers, so students will be ready for the oral! They have a folder with handouts that are used in class. These go home at the end of the quarter.

The grade for the course is based on the following World Languages Benchmark:

familiar topics, using practiced or memorized words and phrases.
