7th grade French is the first half of a two-year sequence. 7th and 8th grade French is the equivalent of high school level I. Students will be assessed throughout the year based on the World Languages Standards. The units listed below will be our focus on this year. Our cultural focus is on the French Speaking World.
The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, ACTFL CAN-DO STATEMENTS will provide learning targets for curriculum and unit design, serving as performance indicators. Students will learn how to chart their progress with these statements through small steps as part of an overall reflective learning process.

Units 1-2 How I present myself to the world around me
Objectifs: By the end of the unit students will learn to:
Greet someone and say goodbye Ask and tell how words are spelled Exchange names Use and identify accents marks Introduce someone Use classroom expressions Exchange phone numbers and Count from 0-59 email addresses Tell time on a digital clock Ask and tell the date (days and months) Describe the weather in Maine Understand classroom commands

Unit 3: les Loisirs et le Temps Libre (leisure activities and free time)
Objectifs: By the end of the unit students will learn to:
Talk about things they like and dislike Talk about how often they do an activity
Talk about activities they like and dislike to do Agree and disagree with someone’s opinion
Talk about how well they do something Give their opinion about things and activities
Write about what they do based on the weather.
Géoculture: The City and Province of Québec
Objectifs: By the end of the unit students will learn about: 1. French Explorers' discovery of Québec 2. The British / French conflict in Acadia (Nova Scotia) area 3. The deportation of the French families from the Nova Scotia area 4. The connection between Maine and Québec 5. The Winter Carnival of Québec
Unit 4: Describing yourself and your "family"
Objectifs: By the end of the unit students will be able to:
Describe themselves (looks and personality)
Ask about and describe people
Ask for and give opinions
Identify family members
Ask about someone's family
Géoculture: French Speaking Africa Objectifs: By the end of the unit students will: Read (in English) about the colonization and imperialism of Africa by many European countries. Students will research a French Speaking Country in Africa.
