Background Information: This rotation is through VinUniversity (VinUni) - a private and nonprofit university located in Hanoi, Vietnam that opened in 2020. It was started by Vietnam's first billionaire who is a property developer and entrepreneur (and initially made his fortune by selling instant noodles in Ukraine) through partnerships with Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania. His purpose was to build a university according to international standards with the hope of creating a breakthrough in the quality of higher education in Vietnam. Most "Vin" companies in Vietnam are part of the VinGroup. The first medical school class also started in 2020. There are 3 other residency programs in addition to pediatrics at VinUni (internal medicine, general surgery, and orthopedic surgery). In 2023, VinUni was the 2nd institution in SE Asia to receive ACGME-I accreditation (after National University of Singapore). The curriculum framework and content have been developed with the University of Pennsylvania. The pediatrics rotations are at the National Children's Hospital, a 2,000 bed free standing children's hospital, and at VinMec, a private hospital that is part of VinGroup. This rotation started with the first exchange in January of 2024.
