Year 3-4

Term 4 Update

Kia ora whānau,

We trust this update finds you well and that you and your families have transitioned back into a more normal way of life. We have been impressed with how our learners have started this term and it's been great to see them quickly engaging with the learning.

Looking Back

What an eventful term we had in Term 3! The Stonefields exhibition was a highlight, the learners loved sharing their lockdown experiences with their whānau. Thank you for making this such a successful event, it was a lovely opportunity to connect with you all.

We were so impressed with how the learners adapted to online learning again in Term 3. It was great to see so many learners continuing with their concept learning about native New Zealand plants with their whānau and taking the opportunity to explore the heritage trail. The excitement continued at school with some hands on learning, something the learners thoroughly enjoyed. We explored the scientific process, undertook different experiments and built on our plant knowledge. It was fun learning about the parts of a plant and learners were impressed to see how quickly their bean sprouts grew.

Term 4

In Term 4, we will be focussing on Change. We will be exploring changes through the lens of historic animals and animal adaptations. The aim being, to help learners build a deeper understanding around the importance of adapting to new environments. This term will provide learners with a variety of learning experiences to support and prepare each learner for their transition to their new hubs next year.

We are fortunate to have Makere Stirling working alongside us once a week to teach te reo Māori. We had a taster of this in Term 3 and are pleased to say our knowledge and ability to speak te reo is growing.

This term, we are also looking forward to watching the films from the Manaiakalani film festival. This year learners across year 3-4 opted to participate in the creation of a film based on a well known story ‘Bad Guys’. Working across the hubs was fun, the learners were fully committed and new relationships formed. We saw some great collaboration and the learners really did bring their best together. A huge thank you to Emma Clark for leading this wonderful creative opportunity.

Moving Spaces

With the completion of the new build, there has been a slight shuffle of some hubs, as the senior school has moved into the new building.

Hub 5 have moved into Hub 8

Hub 6 have moved into Hub 9

Hub 7 will remain in Hub 7

Thank you again to the fabulous whānau who supported us with the move. We really appreciated the help and are so very grateful.
