Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

The Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation continues to develop around the world with many more countries reporting cases, including the first case in NZ. Travel restrictions involving China, Northern Italy and South Korea remain temporarily in place and are under regular review by NZ agencies.

Stonefields School continues to follow the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education advice and guidance on all matters regarding precautions. We continue to monitor the situation both within NZ and further abroad.

For those learners travelling overseas we propose the following approach:

• If a learner is travelling overseas and visits an area where there is a risk of coming into contact with COVID-19, on their return, they will be asked to self-isolate for two weeks prior to returning to school.

• If anyone has been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 they should self-isolate for 14 days from the date of close contact.

At all times, please keep your children at home if they are unwell, to minimise the risk of spreading any type of infection.

It would be appreciated if you could reinforce these hygiene practices at home:

• Frequently wash hands

• Practise cough etiquette – maintain distance, cover coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues or clothing and wash hands

• People with asthma and other types of coughs should inform others of their condition to promote understanding rather than anxiety

It would be helpful for your child/ren to carry a small container of hand sanitiser.

For further information, please see the following website:

The Ministry of Health has updated its Advice for travellers - click here.

Stonefields School will continue to monitor and review our processes, to ensure that our community is kept safe and supported. We will continue to keep you fully informed of our approaches to the management of COVID-19.

Sport

Tamaki Softball Tournament

A huge congratulations to our Yr 5/6 and Yr 7/8 Softball Teams who participated in the Tamaki Softball tournament last week. Both teams' hard work, determination and collaboration made Stonefields School the teams to beat. Our learners were extremely proud of their results with the Yr 5/6 team finishing undefeated at the top of their pool and the Yr 7/8's finishing second, only losing one game by one run. Tau ke!

Would you like to share your views on food and your child’s learning? … and be part of a research project that is exploring what parents think and feel about food and children’s learning. Can or does food affect your child’s learning?

My name is Lauren. I am a trained primary school teacher, currently working in the health industry. I am doing this research for my Master’s in Educational Psychology.

Who can join?

Any parent can join. You can do this on your own or with a friend or a group of friends. Your participation is absolutely voluntary.

What does it entail?

Time wise from your side, it would involve an initial meeting or phone call so we can arrange to meet, then a 45-60 minute interview and finally about 30 minutes to check the summary of my interview after a few weeks. We can do this via email or in person, whatever suits you.

When would this take place?

For those who volunteer, your interview will take place at a time and place that suits you at the school, during this first term.

What happens with your information?

The information you as a parent gives that may identify you will be confidential and only known to me and my University Supervisors. Any other information that could identify you, including the name of the school, will be removed. The interviews will be audio-recorded if you agree to this so that I can write up the interview afterwards. After completion of my project in November 2020, all information will be deleted. If you would like, at the end of my project, I can email you a summary of my findings.)

If you would like to participate, or want more information, feel free to email, phone or text. Lauren can send through a full information sheet explaining in more detail, before you decide.
