It has certainly been a busy couple of weeks with lots of wonderful learning, sports activities and the Kapa Haka Festival and choir performance.
A huge thank you to all our staff for the work behind the scenes in making these wonderful experiences possible as well as to the parent helpers, without you it would just not be possible.

As technology has become more prevalent in society even our preschool children are increasingly adept at using tablet and smart phone technology and are increasingly fluent and demanding (of what technology can do) at a younger age. A decade ago we thought Year 5 was the entry point for a keyboard and increased digital capacity. Now year 3 children are more than competent digitally and are looking for ways to seek knowledge.
As a school, we have made a decision to move to Chromebooks for Years 3-8. Some of the important motivators to our decision are:
Chromebooks connect young learners in a way that gives them powerful opportunities to collaborate with their peers and to manage their learning. Advances in the ease of access to the learning environment and applications platforms make this device the one we now identify as the best fit for empowering this cohort.
iPads will continue to be used in sets of 20 throughout the school.

Should you have any questions regarding moving from iPads to Chromebooks, please email Bob Miller on bob.miller@stonefields.school.nz
An information evening will be held at the start of Term 1 2021.
We are delighted to share that Mel Atkinson has recently completed her teaching degree and has joined us in Hub 5/6.
Mel has been a part of the Stonefields School staff since 2012 as a Teacher Aide, we are delighted to see her continue her passion for teaching and we wish her all the best.
We are delighted that Stonefields School is taking part in JUMP JAM 4 StarJam 2020 on Monday, 7th December. This exciting event will help to raise awareness around disability and promote health and wellness in our community.
Learners can show their support and donate a gold coin and receive entry into the Stonefields School Jump Jam disco .
Time: 12.15pm - 12.45pm
Where: The Courts
All funds raised will go to StarJam so they can continue to inspire young people with disabilities to unleash their potential through the magic of music, dance and performance.
** Gold coins will be collected in the hub **
A key code to order the photos online will be sent home in the next couple of weeks once we have done a final check of all the Hub and team photos.
An app alert will be sent out on the day that key codes are given to learners.

Stonefields School is committed to the health and safety of your child and we use a number of methods to emphasise the importance of wearing a sun hat and being SunSmart.
Hats are compulsory in Term 1 and 4 and by wearing a hat every day at school, your child will have a much lower risk of developing skin cancer in the future. One of the best things we can do to help reinforce these sun protection habits is to be a role model. By ‘walking the sun protection talk’, not only will you be protecting yourself from harmful UV radiation, you will also be helping your child develop good sun protection habits for life.
As a school, we are committed to showing learners how to be SunSmart through our own role modelling in the school environment, to help normalise being SunSmart behaviours and to help ingrain the habit.
Likewise, your choice to role model good sun protection at home will reinforce what they are learning at school. For a child to see you demonstrate being SunSmart will encourage them to do the same when they are out and about outside of school hours.
A handy tip is to keep a broad-brimmed hat and sunscreen in your bag, car or at the door, ready to grab whenever you head outside.
School hats can be purchased from the office, the cost is $12.50 - EFTPOS is available.
Congratulations to our rōpū for an awesome performance at the Te Kōtuku Cultural Festival. By far the largest rōpū, with 107 performers. Thank you to our community for your support, it was an awesome day out.
Congratulations to our junior and senior choir on a wonderful performance at the annual Stonefields Market Day! Such great talent. It was great to see our community members out supporting our tamariki.
A huge congratulations to our Year 5/6 cricket team who were crowned Auckland Champions following a very successful day at Eden Park.
Despite facing previous winners in our pool, Stonefields School didn't lose a game throughout the tournament.
They were true champions not only in the skill that they demonstrated but also in their sportsmanship and attitude.
Thank you to all of our whānau who helped and supported on the day.
We have loved seeing so many determined performances at our athletics days over the last couple of weeks. Athletics is all about achieving your Personal Best and we have been so proud to see our learners continually striving for that with their next race, jump or throw. The fist pumps, cheers and smiles on faces when goals have been achieved are the culmination of all of the effort our learners have put into building their knowledge of athletics this term in PE. We are extremely proud of each and every learner for Being their Best Self and Bringing their Best Together as they competed and encouraged their team.
Thank you to all of our whānau who joined us on the day, it really does create a special atmosphere having so many of our community cheering us on.
A huge well done to all of our Year 7 and 8 learners who represented Stonefields at the Eastern Zones Athletics Competition. Our team performed brilliantly against top-quality competition achieving some personal bests and setting up some very exciting and nail-biting finishes.
A special congratulations to the following learners who placed in the top 3 for events and qualified for the Auckland Champs:
