Update 14

29th October 2020

Kia ora whānau,

We hope you had a wonderful long weekend and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine.

It has been lovely to have parents onsite again and to see our families chatting together and popping into the hubs. Our school encourages partnership and community.

We have a lot of celebrations and events coming up over the next few weeks, Year 7/8 school camp, the official opening of the new building, Manaiakalani Film Festival and a lot more action coming our way over the weeks ahead.

Manaiakalani Film Festival

On Wednesday 11th November, we will be attending our annual Manaiakalani Film Festival at Hoyts Sylvia Park. This is an exciting day where we get to view the movies we have created by sharing them on the big screen. We’ll also be treated to watching other movies from around the cluster. Learners and teachers will be travelling by bus. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough room in the cinemas for parents to attend with us. However, you will get a chance to view all of the movies online after the Film Festival. Please talk to the Hub teachers about what time your child’s Hub will be going to the cinema if you are wanting to book any appointments for your child on this day.

Updated Hub Email Addresses

With the recent move, some hub email addresses have changed. If you need to contact the Hub teachers, please click here for the updated list, details are also available under contacts in the school app.

Sun Hats and Sunscreen

As the weather starts to warm up, we would like to remind you that it is compulsory for all learners to wear a hat in Term 1 and Term 4. Hats are available to purchase from the school office at $12.50 each. EFTPOS is available.

We advise that all children have sunscreen applied at home prior to coming to school.

  • Kapa Haka, Netball Teams and Sibling Photos

We ask that all learners are dressed in the correct school uniform including footwear and hair accessories. Click here for the uniform policy.

If your child/ren played netball this season please make sure they have their PE uniform with them to change into. A schedule of photo times will be sent to coaches and managers should you wish to join your teams for their team photo.

As soon as we receive the form for sibling photos from PhotoLife, we will share this with you.

Travelling to School

As the weather warms up, we would like to encourage as many learners as possible to walk, scoot, or cycle to school. Fresh air and exercise before school have been proven to improve learning.

Being active keeps our learners healthy. It reduces the number of cars around the school which means our learners are safer and the environment is cleaner. If you do come to school by car then please click here to view important information regarding parking around Stonefields School.

Sport

Last week sure was an exciting week for Stonefields School Sports. There was a sea of blue at the Tamaki Football Tournament as a record 104 learners from Yr 3 - Yr 8 represented Stonefields School. It was a fantastic day filled with lots of smiles, goals and wins for all our teams. Congratulations to all of the teams who won their grade!

Our Yr 7/8 volleyball teams also had a lot to be proud of as they lived up to our school values in the Eastern Zones Volleyball Tournament last week. Facing tough opposition, we showed how to bring our best together producing some fantastic performances as games came down to the last few points.

As always, we would like to thank all of our whānau who helped and supported at these events. Your support plays an important role in helping us to continue to grow our sports programme at Stonefields School.

Touch and athletics are our next sports events. You can volunteer to help with these, or any other sports, on our Sports website here.

Save the Date - Athletics

We plan to hold our Athletics days on our school field on the following dates (please note these may be subject to change).

  • Yr 0 - 2: Friday 27th November
  • Yr 3 - 4: Monday 23rd November
  • Yr 5 - 6: Friday 20th November
  • Yr 7 - 8: Monday 16th November

Kapa Haka

Te Kōtuku Cultural Festival

Kapa Haka's next scheduled event is the Te Kōtuku Cultural Festival, to be held on Saturday, 21st November at Ruapōtaka Marae in Glen Innes.

The Te Kōtuku Cultural Festival is a local primary school kapa haka performance showcase. Stonefields School is 1 of 14 local schools who have been invited to perform. It's a great experience for our rōpū. Not only do we get to perform but we also get the chance to see other rōpū from around the area perform. This is a wonderful opportunity to extend and enhance our kapa haka experiences and learning.

Stonefields School Kapa Haka will be performing at 10:05am
