This week we celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.
Ko taku reo taku ohooho, ko taku reo taku mapihi mauria | My language is my awakening, my language is the window to my soul.
Thank you to you, our community for the wonderful way you are continuing to support and follow the school guidelines and practices for Alert Level 2.5!
We really appreciate the way you are dropping your children off at school and showing consideration during the pick up at the end of the school day.
Thank you for continuing to use the NZ COVID Tracer QR code if entering the school site.
In light of the distressing content that was streamed on many social media platforms last week, we wanted to remind you that the minimum sign up age for Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and YouTube is 13.
This is because a child’s social and emotional capability is still developing which can make it more difficult to identify and manage challenges that occur on a platform designed for adults and teens. If your child is under 13 and keen to use social media, consider their capability to manage potential online challenges before setting up a profile. It is better your child is honest with you as you can help them to stay safe online.
Click here for more information on things to consider before letting your children sign up to social media.
The school will be organised as follows in Term 4 and remain the same moving into 2021. Hubs impacted by the move will be supported with movers, we would also like to invite our community to assist with the move (depending on COVID alert levels) The move will start taking place during week 1 Term 4 (12th-16th October) once the blessing has been done on Wednesday 14th October.
Should you be able to help with the move, we would love to have you come along... more details to be shared in the coming weeks.
Should you still have whiteboards and whiteboard markers borrowed from school during the level 3 lockdown, we ask that they are kindly returned to school as soon as possible. Learners can return them to their hub.
We ask everyone to please put the safety of all learners first and where possible park further away from the school and walk in to drop off or collect your children.
Please show consideration when parking vehicles at pick up and drop off times. Traffic must be allowed to flow freely (yet cautiously) through the streets. Parents / caregivers and visitors to the school are advised not to park in the private driveways and lanes of our neighbours properties.
The school adopted a policy of travelling anti clockwise around the school to help alleviate congestion. We ask for your support with this.
This is an important reminder that under Level 2.5, no parents/caregivers are permitted to enter the school site (unless this has been pre-arranged for special reasons)
Should you need to enter the school site or collect your child/ren during the school day or at lunchtime, please call the office on 09 5277721 when you are at the entrance and a member of staff will assist you. Please do not come onsite!
Hub 1 Gate:
The Hub 1 gate is currently closed until the end of the Term due to construction around the new build.
Hub 1 and 2 learners are able to enter and exit through the small gate at the 'top of the hill' at the Guyon Street end of the staff car park. All other learners are to use other entry/exit points.
If you use the Hub 1 gate as a drop-off and pick up point, please make alternative arrangements during this time.
This term we have been learning about Orienteering and had hoped to hold a whole school orienteering event at Maungarei Springs / Stonefields Wetlands. Due to current circumstances this event will now look a little bit different. The exciting news is we are inviting our whānau to take part too!
Next week we will be posting an Orienteering Challenge on our Sports website here which can be completed in the upcoming school holidays.
Get your whānau together, give it a go and share your photos with us!
We're thrilled to celebrate Pink Shirt Day on Friday, 16th October 2020! We will be joining schools, students and teachers throughout Aotearoa to Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying!
We’ll be celebrating Pink Shirt Day by inviting our learners to wear something pink to show their support.
