Welcome back to another exciting term of learning at Stonefields School.
Following lockdown, our senior learners have been actively engaging with the community to make a genuine difference. It has been fantastic to see the compassion and empathy our learners have demonstrated; we are proud of them, as we know you will be too.
Thank you for all that you did to support your children whilst we were in lockdown. The help you gave them was invaluable and we hope that you got a lot out of the experience yourself. From speaking with many of you at the Family Led Conferences, it certainly sounded to be the case!
It was fantastic to see how motivated our seniors were and the manner in which they took charge of their learning. Lockdown really did prove an authentic opportunity to live our school values.
We've had so much fun and have done some amazing learning since our physical return to school. From designing mathematically correct mini-golf holes to analysing short-movies and taking part in cycle safety, our learning has been engaging and where possible linked to familiar contexts.
To help promote businesses in our community and to encourage people to get our after lockdown, we researched and created blog posts.
Already some have been published, with more yet to come! Lily's blog post about gluten-free restaurants in Auckland has already made it to the first page of Google!
If you've not already seen your learner's blog post, why not ask for them to take you through it?
Having written formal letters, our learners contacted a variety of businesses in their communities. Since then, they have been hard at work conducting interviews and research about these businesses. They have also created a range of content to help promote them.
Many of our learners have even had the opportunity to visit their chosen businesses in person, experiencing their products/services, allowing them to better understand their offerings.
We hope to see you on Thursday the 6th August for our exhibition.
We're very much looking forward to sharing our incredible learning with you all!

In Term 3 we will be focussing on Stories of our Local Iwi. This focus will be filled with a range of exciting, authentic learning experiences. Our learners will also have the opportunity to carry this learning into the Manaiakalani Film Festival.
More information will be given around our team learning design as the term progresses.
To support the learning your children are doing at school, you may like to encourage home learning.
The most beneficial home learning supports what is being covered in the hub. SchoolTalk provides an excellent window into what your children have been up to and can provide a great springboard for conversations. All of the docs that the learners work in at school are also available at home, so should you wish, this learning can also be carried over.
If you would like additional learning for your child, we recommend Education Perfect and Khan Academy.
Thank you again for your ongoing support.
We look forward forward to another exciting term of learning, working hand-in-hand with you to achieve the best outcomes for your children.
Kia ora Akomanga Waru and Akomanga Iwa parents,
It has been a great term in Year 7 and 8 and we continue to see our amazing learners grow in agency, independence and collaboration.
We have enjoyed exploring Māori stories, with a science lens. In Hub 8, learners have focused on retelling myths and writing their own, with a focus on descriptive and figurative language, as well as structure and dialogue of narratives.
In Hub 9, learners have explored writing non-fiction reports based on historical events and scientific understanding. We have learned about research methods, note-taking and organising information using a strong structure.
In maths, we have explored number strategies and applied this to real life contexts. The learners are making great progress, ensuring that they take control of their own learning gaps using tools such as SchoolTalk and Education Perfect.
In science, some learners have explored the scientific method and have carried out scientific investigations. Some have explored important vocabulary and methods such as variables, hypotheses and forming conclusions using data. Others have done a deep-dive into scientific understanding, with a focus on biology, DNA and genetics.
We are very much looking forward to the possibilities of Term 4, with the focus of ‘Change and Phenomenon!’ (more on that to come!) and of course, our camp in Week 4!
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable break.
Kind regards,
Hope, Ollie, Sarah & Miriam
