Recently, some of our Students' Union Officers attended the two-day NUS National Conference in Harrogate. Amaan (our SU President) has written about his experiences here...
"The NUS (National Union of Students) is a network of students which supports the work of Students' Unions in the UK and Northern Ireland.
Every year, NUS hosts an National Conference where Union Presidents and Officers, bring together feedback around issues that their peers are facing. They submit these issues along with suggested solutions as part of a policy. Workshops are held to flesh out the ideas and then they are then debated by all the delegates from across the country.
Taking part in the workshops gave us a really valuable opportunity to express ourselves and it provided us with tools to help articulate our ideas in meaningful ways to bring about positive change. There was also a talk by Paul Blomfield MP which was really inspiring to stay proactive in our roles.
This year, Sheffield College's SU President Amaan addressed the conference on a number of issues that he believed were affecting students in Sheffield. Topics discussed include Education, Cost of Living, International Students, amongst many more. The Debates were wholesome, and informative. They gave us a great insight into the views of students in different parts of the UK.
It was lovely to also be in the historic town of Harrogate, and seeing the rich history and culture of the surrounding areas was beautiful. The train strikes on our way home added a slight curve ball, but it was easy to find a solution (even if it took a bit longer)!"
Sharon, our Disabled Students' Officer, shared that "it was nice to meet other delegates from different colleges and universities in England and see how they work as a representative in their roles".
Our LGBT+ Officer, Leo, also shared that they will "almost definitely be going back next year" if they are re-elected into the SU team.

New Environmental Officer elected to the SU Team
We recently held an election for students to vote in an Environmental Officer to the Students' Union team. Massive congratulations to Zion who was elected into the role. Zion is in her first year at College, studying Level 2 Business, and is incredibility passionate about environmental issues. The officers are looking forward to working with her!
