Unfortunately the end of the academic year is coming very close... that means that the Students' Union Presidents time is almost up! Novaya is now sharing her experience of being the Student' Union President as she reflects on her time at The Sheffield College.

How did you end up in the role of Students' Union President?
How did you end up in the role of Students' Union President?
" At the start of my journey at The Sheffield College I was a Student Rep consecutively for 2 years throughout my studies, in my final year in the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic I decided to delay my plans of going to University. I was already interested in the role and enjoyed the political interest and the variation of the role. I applied, had the election and I got the post"

What has been the highlight of your role?

"I have loved how versatile the role has been, everyday has been truly different and it has been such a unique experience, the transition from student to staff member has been a lot to get used to but I have enjoyed working with my team to help amplify student voice and continue to support student needs."

"When I first started the role I was apprehensive about the impacts of Covid-19, not just the physical impacts but taking into account mental health and the ability to meet students needs. I had worked on the College's Covid-19 Rapid Testing Center so I know firsthand the pressures that the college had to face. Being in and out of restrictions throughout the year made me worry if I could do enough for students. We have managed to achieve so much given the circumstances and I hope the next Presidency has more normality!"

"Next academic year I am studying Biomedical Sciences at Sheffield Hallam University, I am really excited to be studying again and I can not wait. I have enjoyed this year as the Students' Union President and the unique opportunities that I have received. This role has broadened my educational horizon and allowed me to flourish in ways that I did not expect."
