Music Student Connor Berry releases debut single
Music student at The Sheffield College, Connor Berry, released his debut single 'Mr Rain' on all major streaming platforms on 11th February.
He wrote the song in lockdown and started producing it in November 2021 and has already been played and supported by BBC Radio Sheffield. Here's what he had to say about the experience so far:
What was your experience of creating 'Mr Rain'?
Creating Mr Rain was an exciting process, I went into the studio with just a faint idea in my head of what I wanted it to turn out like, and we just went with the flow. Recording the vocals was pretty easy as the majority of them were first take recordings. I enjoyed being experimental with the track, I could do anything I wanted. For example, at some points in the song you can hear me whistling!
Who are your biggest musical influences?
My biggest influence is The Beatles, I think when listening to the track you can tell. The melody is very Beatle-like, and in the chorus, we even added a Mellotron which The Beatles are heavily associated with. Other bands such as Oasis are also an influence to me, hence the rock feeling to the song.
What was it like to hear your song on BBC Radio Sheffield?
It was great to have my song played on BBC Radio Sheffield twice, and to also go on there for an interview. The support so far has been incredible.
What do you hope the future holds?
In 10 year's time I hope to still be performing my music live, whether this be with a band or by myself. Currently I'm in a band formed of other college students. The band is called 'Lunarca', I'm the lead singer and occasionally play rhythm guitar. Elliot Britton is the lead guitarist, Jasper Elliott on bass and Tom Stafford on Drums. We all write original songs which we hope to be recording very soon and releasing to all major platforms.

Improvements to Hillsborough Campus' Animal Care Department
Land-based students at College have been out in the cold, busy making improvements to Hillsborough Campus, specifically for the animal care department.
The students have built a new path to provide the animals access to their new area and all the hard work has definitely paid off - it looks great!
As part of the work, the recently taken in rescue chickens have benefitted as well...
The chickens have been spoilt (in the best way) since arriving and now have a wonderful new compound, built especially for them by the students. Animal care students have also given them winter health check-ups and they are doing brilliantly, having made great progress since their rescue.
Let's hope the animals are just as impressed with it as we were when we received these pictures!
