SheffCol Community Kitchen
SheffCol Community Kitchen
The Sheffcol Community Kitchen has officially launched this month, with the aim of:
Providing food parcels to students in need
Making donations to local food banks
Offering breakfast clubs for students
Providing hot takeaway meals to students in need
Offering hot meals to key groups in the community
Supporting nutrition education within our communities
Unfortunately, demand for such services is increasing at alarming rates, and the Community Kitchen has been set up to support people struggling.
As part of this, students and staff can donate food to the service.
You may have noticed that donation boxes have popped up across campuses, and more information about the types of donations needed can be found below...
Update on the College's Sustainability Commitments
The College is well aware of it's responsibility to be sustainable, and is constantly working towards this in all areas. In fact, 'Sustainability' in one of the four key themes of The Sheffield College's Strategic Plan.
Students have also fed back to staff that they want to know what the College is doing to become more sustainable, and so we reached out to our Estates Team, who let us know some of the amazing work they've been up to!
Electric van bought for the Estates team, with aspiration to purchase more for other departments
Led lighting installed at every opportunity and 'smart' lighting installed in City car park
Increased drinking fountains with the capacity to refill bottles reducing the need for plastic bottles
Created an Energy Working Group formed to look at opportunities to reduce consumption
Completed a programme of repairing and ensuring maximum output from our renewable’s where possible (e.g. wind turbines)
During roofing works at Peaks, Construction block at City and Olive Grove we have upgraded insulation, reducing the need for extra heating
Implemented a procedure of buying furniture that can be reutilised in other areas reducing the landfill waste potential in future
The Sheffield College is also committed to being a net-zero carbon organisation by 2040 with the milestone of being carbon neutral by 2030.
We have made great progress and can't wait to see what changes are made in the future to reach this goal!
Student's Union Events and Activities coming in the New Year
