Always An Alternative events coming up at College
The Sheffield College are working in partnership with Always an Alternative to raise awareness of the dangers of carrying weapons.
We are excited to tell you that Sheffield College will be hosting the cutting-edge knife crime awareness exhibition at City Campus for a week from 9th May 2022 – 13th May 2022.
Always an Alternative is a non-profit organisation created with the ultimate aim of reducing serious youth violence by engaging the youthful minds of today. It’s founder, Anthony, is the creator of Sheffield’s most successful anti-knife campaign #KEEPSHEFFIELDSTAINLESS
One of the main responsibilities taken on by the Always an Alternative group is a free knife/weapon collection and disposal service in and around Sheffield. This resulted in a multitude of weapons/knives being disposed of through Always an Alternative – which they have turned into art.
You may have heard of the Knife Angel – well, we will be hosting Sheffield’s answer to it! The tree of opportunity. Come along and have a look at the tree – it really does send a powerful message. Also on exhibition will be Anthony’s custom-made trainers, weapon bin graffiti and artwork from One Knife Many Lives.
Throughout the week there will also be opportunity to attend a range of talks/workshops, including talks on knife crime, performance arts workshops.
Then…it’s our turn! Fantastically, The Sheffield College has been invited to submit a piece of artwork which will be displayed at a venue in Sheffield City Centre in July 2022 alongside other artworks. The public then gets to decide which is their favourite!
If you want to get involved or have any questions please email Ellena Street - ellena.street@sheffcol.ac.uk
Young carers - your views are needed!
Are you a young carer? Please consider taking part in the following focus group to help improve support for young carers in England!
London School of Economics (LSE) is carrying out research into what sort of support you and your families receive from services, individuals or school/college.
We’d like to find out what is good or bad about it, and what else might be helpful. We hope that the research can help make services and support more useful for young carers across the country.
The research focus group will be on Wednesday 4th May, 12.30-2.30pm with free lunch. We will also send you a £15 voucher as a thank you for your time.
If you would like to take part, just email Martin Tormey - martin.tormey@sheffcol.ac.uk
