Political Cartoon Assignment
After reviewing the elements of a political cartoon your assignment is to create 2 cartoons of your own.
Both cartoons can be on any topic -
Be sure to utilize the characteristics and tools we have discussed in class within your own cartoon. (Think: exaggeration, labeling, analogy, irony)
Remember artistic talent is not the most important skill necessary to create a successful political cartoon. You may draw or use a computer. But all cartoons must be on blank white paper (no lined paper).
{Remember: Cartoons may be drawn or completed on the computer}
Also, for each cartoon you must answer the Analyzing a Political Cartoon Questions. (Use proper heading for the Analyzing Political Cartoon Questions).
Each Cartoon & Analyzing Political Cartoon Questions should be included in separate Otus Blog Post posted by Friday September 25th.

Analyzing Political Cartoon Questions (these must be typed; use proper grammar)
1. Describe what you see in the cartoon - describe everything you see:
a. Who are the characters (people, animals, etc) in the cartoon?
b. What is the setting of the cartoon? (Place and time)
c. What symbols/objects do you see in the cartoon?
2. Putting together your answers for Part 1 (questions a, b, and c: in your opinion). What is occurring in this cartoon? (This is a summary for the reader)
What do the symbols represent?
What do you think is the cartoonist's opinion about the topic portrayed in the cartoon? Think bias/author’s purpose. What evidence do you have to support your belief?
3. Do you agree or disagree with the cartoonist's opinion? Why or why not?
***Hint! You are the cartoonist for this assignment - you are describing what you created - so you should know who the characters are, when and what the setting is, plus the symbols/objects and what they represent - and the opinion you are trying to convey to the reader. Also, you do not have to agree with what you have created.
