Close reading: close reading means reading to uncover layers of meaning that lead to deep comprehension. Close, analytical reading stresses engaging with a text of sufficient complexity directly and examining meaning thoroughly and methodically, encouraging students to read and reread deliberately.
One way to annotate for our social studies class:
highlight/circle the basic questions while labeling each one with "when", "where", "who", "what", "why", how"
write down any questions you have while reading
circle and place a "?" next to any person or idea that you need to research or look up
