Declaration of Independence 'Children's Book'

Due Friday November 18th

Directions:

You or you and your group will create an illustrated children's version of the Declaration of Independence that rephrases key excerpts from the real document. Your version should be written in simple, clear language that a 3rd grader can read and understand.

{You can use any technology you want for this project: colored pencils, to Google Slides, to well anything}

*Hint use the work you completed for the "Translating the Declaration" Activity to create a rough draft of your story.

Requirements:

1. The book should have a minimum of 9 pages or slides. (You can have more)

  • An introduction
  • 8 separate excerpts

2. The introduction should give an explanation of the events that lead to the Declaration of Independence (Stamp Act, etc.).

  • You can can create your own introduction OR add lines of text to the introduction below
    • "Once upon a time, a group of people left their homeland to live in a faraway land ruled by Britain. The people were called colonists. The colonists loved their new homeland, but many were unhappy with the British government. They thought the king was selfish, cruel ruler. Eventually, the colonists become very angry with the king and fought against him because .... {this is where you add your own text}

3. Use at minimum the 8 separate excerpts from the "Translating the Declaration" Activity.

4. A color illustration (picture or visual) for each rephrased excerpt.

5. Details to make your children's version of the Declaration of Independence artistic and visually appealing to a 3rd grader.
