The study of genocide is a serious topic requiring consideration for members of our community. Please be aware of the sensitive nature of the topic and work to understand this difficult concept to the best of your ability.
In our unit we will work to understand and define the term genocide. Investigating the origins of the word and the reasons for creating a new word to describe what happened. We will examine the Holocaust, the Armenian Genocide, Cambodian Genocide, the Bosnian Genocide, the Rwandan Genocide, and Darfur.

Dear Seventh Grade Students and Parents:
A significant part of the 7th grade Social Studies curriculum includes the study genocide. We wanted to inform students and parents we are about begin this unit.
Our study will include research, discussion, films (i.e. The Hitler Youth, Hotel Rwanda) and a trip to the IL Holocaust Museum. We will investigate Armenia , the Holocaust, Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda, and Darfur.
Genocide is a sensitive topic. Please feel assured the curriculum is age appropriate and supported by District 112.
