      • GSSP: 2*(0.75 * ($13,210.50 - $4,547.50))

  1. 1/2 Teaching Assistantship (20 hours TA) (TA package includes: tuition + health insurance + salary; you will pay the fee)

    • In my group, usually a student will only be a TA for 1 semester or 1 year (normally in their first year).

  2. 1/2 Research Assistantship (20 hour RA) (RA package includes: tuition + health insurance + salary; you will pay the fee)

    • Fall 2020 - May 2021: Annual salary $30,000 (students will pay the fee: 2038.80/semester).

      • As a PHD student, you will be working on 2-3 research projects within a group of 8-12 PhD students.

      • Check the Mystudents tab for what kind of jobs my previous students found. This helps you understand the job market after graduating from my group.

      • On your part, I hope you can ask yourself: do you really want to pursue a PHD degree? If so, which areas are you interested in? What is your future career path?

      • RA salary

      • If you want to do an internship in summer, you will be covered for 9 months (May 16 - Aug 14 not covered). Otherwise, we cover you for all 12 months.

      • Normally you can do internship starting from the second semester. I hope the first summer you can stay on campus to do research.

  3. 1/4 TA + 1/4 RA

  4. Department Hourly Research Students Assigning Website

    • junior and senior: 10 - 12 $/hour for 15-20 hours / week.

    • Graduate students: 15 - 20 $/hour for 15-20 hours / week.

  5. Undergraduate Researchers

  6. Once a student is graduated, he can no longer be hired as a student employee (RA or hourly) and cannot be paid for travel to conferences.

  7. Other Funding Mechanism

      • Part-time PHD: Companies have supported their employees to pursue a PHD in my group. In that case, the company will pay for the tuition and salary for the students.

    • Self-funded or Government funded PhD: Please check to see if you met our minimum TOEFL and GRE requirement here.

      • Internship: Some institutes hire student interns all year long. You can work on an internship while completing credits at school in your later year of the PHD study if this experience helps you secure a job later on.

      • Other Fellowship: I encourage you to apply for NSF fellowship programs. This is a good training for you to learn how to write grants and is especially good if you want to apply for a faculty position later.
