The first step in measuring power is to set up your testbench exactly as shown in the Full Custom Design tutorials.
However, before you hit Run, Select Outputs/Save All.
You will see this screen. Check "all" next to Select Power Signals to Output (pwr).
Then Run your Trans simulation.
When the simulation results graph appears. Select Browser/Results/Open Results
This window will appear. Open the "psf" file.
You will see something like this.
Under Signals on the Left hand side, open the Tran folder, then double click the pwr wave.
You will then see a new waveform appear, which shows the power for your simulation.
To get a value for average power consumption over your simulation period, open the waveform calculator.
Hit the little calculator icon.
Once the calculator opens, go back to the waveform window and highlight the "pwr" wave.
This will populate the calculator. Go back to the calculator and then click on "average" which is found under Special Functions
in the Function Panel toward the bottom of the calculator window.
You should see something similar to this window.
Click on the symbol with the green arrow to run the calculation.
A new window will open with the results of your calculation.
