Tier 3 Interventions
Accommodations--Students must meet eligibility criteria for a Section 504 impairment to receive services. Section 504 provides accommodations and modifications for students in inclusion settings. There is no specially designed instruction as there is with special education services.
Day Treatment Services--Day Treatment Services in the area include the Northwest Passage in Wausau and Mikan Day Treatment in Marshfield. Northwest Passage offers full day programming at the center in Wausau. Mikan Day Treatment offers half day programming and students attend school for the other half of the day in their district of residence. Medford School District has explored and discussed offering Day Treatment Services within the school setting over the past year through Northwest Passage.
Expulsion--Students with and without disabilities can receive expulsions from school in accordance with federal and state laws and school district policies
Functional Behavioral Assessment--Functional Behavior Assessments can be conducted which look at the antecedents, consequences, and function of the behaviors. This helps develop hypothesis for specific behaviors which then lead to more intensive individual behavioral plans addressed to change behaviors through teaching of replacement behaviors.
Individual Behavorial Intervention Plan--Individual students can have behavioral intervention plans regardless of disablity or whether they receive special education services. Behavioral Intervention Plans can be a part of a student IEP or reference can be made to a behavioral plan for flexibility in making changes as appropriate.
In-School/Out-of-school Suspension--Students can receive in and out of school suspensions according to district policies and procedures. Reference the School Handbook for information on hom many suspensions a student can receive.
Modified School Days--IEP teams have the right to make programming decisions and amount of time in regular education, special education, or within the school setting including a shortened school day. These are IEP team decisions.
Outpatient Services--Medford Schools have explored and discussed with Northwest Passage and Local Providers like Counseling Connection on offering outpatient services within the school setting. This counseling would be at the parent expense but services would be provided during the school day at a school site.
Police Liaison Services--Medford Schools contract with Medford Police on providing a Police Liaison Officer in our school. Rich Burghaus is currently our Police Liaison Officer. He provides DARE instruction at the middle school level. Rich's primary office space is at MASH.
Referral for Special Education--Students can be referred for special education services by a parent or teacher. There is a referral form to complete which is available through the School Psychologist Office. Students need to meet the eligibility criteria for an impairment and have a need for special education services. Parents need to provide consent for services.
Referral to Police or other authorities or other interagency support--Students that display adverse behaviors or decision making and participate in disorderly conduct, vandalism, truancy, etc can be referred to juvenile justice, human services, police, or other interagencies for further evaluation and services.
Reward Systems--Individual students can have reward systems in place to help with their behaviors.
School Psychological Services--The school psychologist evaluates students for placement in special education, consults with teachers and students, and collaborates with other community agencies and medical facilities to provide needed services to students.
Social Skills Instruction--Social Skills Instruction is provided through evidence based curriculum and best practice strategies in a range of social skill areas including friendship, anger control, decision making, and more.
Special Education Services--The Medford Area Public School District offers a range of special education services within each of our buildings including Early Childhood Special Education, Cross-Categorical, Emotional Behavioral Disability, Autism, Learning Disabled, Speech Language, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and School Psychological Services. Certified and Support Staff help provide services in a range of options for students.
Summer School Social Skills Program--We offer a social skills program as part of summer school where students with an EBD impairment of IEP Team decision can attend.
Training--The school district helps promote in district trainings for staff and parents through speakers and videos. We also promote staff attending conferences or workshops to further their professional development.
Wrap-around Services--Wrap Around Services are a collaboration of outside agencies (Social Services, Counseling, Police), parents, student, and school district working together to meet the needs of a student. There would be regular meetings where all of the invested parties collaborate on an individual student.
