Universal Assessments

NWEA-Map: A computerized test called NWEA-Map is administered by a testing proctor every fall and spring (winter is optional). The assessment is adaptive, meaning that each student receives a unique test of about 52 questions, built around the the student's answers.  For example, if a child answers a question correctly, the computer will give the child a more difficult question. If a child answers a question incorrectly, the computer will give the child an easier question. The computer assigns the child a RIT score based on the level where the child answered 50% of the question right and 50% wrong.

WI Forward: In addition to ELA & math tests in grades 3-8. Every students in grades 4, 8 and 10 take additional tests in social studies and science in Apr-May of each year. The results of this assessment are usually received in July.

Decision Rules

If a child scores below the 25 percentile in reading on the NWEA-Map or receives a Basic or Minimal score on the WI Forward, the child may be recommended for further testing.
