MIT CogNet

Overview

MIT CogNet are eBooks published by the MIT University Press. They should be monitored for updates to ensure that we have access to all of our titles.

The collection was renewed for 2017 so that we are responsible for maintaining both the 2016 and 2017 MARC Records. However, the vendor has indicated that the 2017 is inclusive of the 2016 collection so that should be the only collection necessary to maintain. Should a record not appear in the 2017 collection but it is in the 2016 collection, that would explain its origin. Perpetual access is an open question but I believe we should have it.

Records

Use OCLC records for these titles.

In the URL (MARC 856), include the following:

• $yRead this eBook (MITCogNet):

• $uhttp://ezproxy.fau.edu/login?url=http://cognet.mit.edu/book/biorobotics

• $xCogNetID: 120316

• $yFAU: Off-campus access limited to current FAU students & employees

• $5FBoU

The $u is supplied as an example.

The $x is repeatable and could contain multiple identifiers if the vendor duplicates the titles in our holdings, which seems to happen.

Maintenance

Download the MARC records from the following site:

• http://cognet.mit.edu/librarians

  • Complete MARC Records 2016

Export (using MarcEdit) the following fields:

• • 001

  • 245

  • 856

Be sure to remove the $3MIT CogNet from the 856

Compare the results of this to the file in maintenance directory in the MIT CogNet folder in the Genload directory on the TECHSTAFF shared folder:

Z:\GenLoad\MIT CogNet\Maintenance

There is an Excel document that can be used for this:

Any rows found to be different should be reviewed as either an update or a new record. Be sure to check both the Now and Prior tabs (for any dropped titles).

The latest file name is: CogNet_complete_010616.mrc

This will likely change quarterly.
