This site provides organization and links to documents on how to manage the various processes performed by the technical services department for Wimberly Library at Florida Atlantic University. The procedures are often considered along two axes: monographs or serials and print or electronic. This site will attempt to allow users to find the precise procedure and also the related procedure for similar workflows. All procedural changes have been reviewed and approved by the associate dean of the technical services department.
Technical Services encompasses all of the tasks that are concerned with the processing of library materials in order to make them accessible to the users of the library. These tasks include budget planning and tracking, ordering, claiming, and receipt of library materials; cataloging and classification; serials control; database maintenance; binding and processing. The tasks are organized into units that function cooperatively to accomplish the goal of timely and accurate accessibility of library materials to the university community. The functioning units are Acquisitions, Cataloging, Processing and Binding.
