PHILOSOPHY

The purpose of the LA STEM curriculum is to provide a contextual framework for the study of STEM subjects. STEM is not only the content of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, but it is also how these fields join and serve the larger purpose of human endeavors.

We believe that providing a narrative framework for the STEM curriculum through the stories of real people and events, both contemporary and historical, makes a more compelling structure than the traditional method found in most science textbooks. These texts provide excellent references and sources of content information for upper elementary through high school students. The narratives of challenges and discoveries of interesting people and events provide a more engaging invitation into learning the needed STEM content and skills that help solve problems that STEM professionals encounter.
