Rothko's murals, part 2

Rothko’s paintings took on a mythic quality. Five large paintings by one of the most popular abstract modern artists existed but no one could see them. In 2014 that changed. Art conservators working with modern technology mapped the original colors and projected light onto the canvases to recreate the original color without touching the paintings. In this way, Rothko’s original work, even the brush strokes, can still be seen. The paintings are now in a gallery setting where the conditions of light can be controlled rather than in a sunlit penthouse. A popular time to be in the gallery is at 4:00 PM when the enhanced lighting is turned off and the paintings can be seen in their faded condition.
