Home Explorations: EARTH MOON STARS
In this unit, students learn the cardinal directions and study the location of the Earth in the Universe. Then students explore the patterns on Earth, such as day/night and the length of shadows. At the end of this unit, students learn about the brightness of stars.
Historical Connection: Watch a NASA video of the first moon landing and views of Earth from space.
Choose any or all of the following lessons to explore more about the Earth, Moon, and Stars.
In this exploration students practice locating their direction with a compass.
Students keep track of the moon's phases with a journal.
Students use a ball and light to simulate phases of the moon in relationship to the orbit around earth.
Students track the shape and size of a shadow through a day.
The relative brightness and size of a star can determine its size and distance from earth.
