PART II 2D Plotter

Part II Step 1

The slider that you have made now needs to glide on another, larger slider. Turn over your completed Part I slider and glue two sets of beads as shown. Again, make sure the bamboo skewers can move easily back and forth.

Part II Step 2

After the glue sets, turn the slider and new rails onto two large pieces of foam as shown.  These should be at least 8" X 2" in size. Don't glue it just yet. It will need some adjustment.

Part II Step 3

After the glue sets, turn the slider and new rails onto two large pieces of foam as shown.  These should be at least 8" X 2" in size. Don't glue it just yet. It will need some adjustment. The width of the rails should be around 5" and the length about 8".  The bigger the system the less stable it will be. The smaller the system, the smaller the drawing you can plot.  Once you have it arranged, then glue the bottom rails to the bottom foam pieces

Part II Step 4

You will notice in the pictures above that the motor that moves the plotter in this dimension will be situated on the model just like you did in Part I. You may need to adjust where your motor mount will go so that it can be the correct height to move the other carriage. Notice too, in the diagram above that you will need to make a box on the other end and create a little plastic nut as well.

Study the picture below to see how this should look when completed.

Completing Part II and testing

Use a 9 volt battery to test each axis of the plotter.  You can make a hole in the Part I slider as shown in the picture above and test your unit at this point.  Troubleshoot for weaknesses and screw threads that stick.  You can always take your system apart and reg-glue as needed.   This pictures shows the electrical wires attached.  That is the next part to complete!
