LA STEM STORY DISCIPLINE OUTLINE

The LA STEM Stories provided in the menu below are categorized by general category or focus of the story content: Biological Science, Chemistry and Physical Science, Earth/Environmental Science, Engineering Design/Technology, or Mathematics. Some stories share disciplines so they are cross-referenced.

For all stories, a LA STEM histogram is provided to display the relative degree that each STEM discipline plays in the explorations associated with the story. Each color is indicated by a 1 to 5 rating wheee red=science, yellow=technology, green=engineering, and blue=mathematics.

Not every story or context contains the same degree of emphasis in each of the STEM disciplines.  We do not seek to insert or crowbar a discipline where it would not naturally exist. Instead, each story leads the learner to inquire and explore using the necessary skills, content knowledge, and disciplinary heuristic.
