Our main channel for announcements is through the blog. At the moment it's mostly release notes postings, but we have plans to build out the scope of communications we output through the blog.
There are two main ways to get automated notifications when we post something new on the blog:
- If you sign up for an account on the forum (which we encourage you to do, as it will enable you to post questions and comments if you encounter any difficulty while using the system) you can request email notifications, which can be customized based on what you'd like to be notified about (eg announcements, documentation, Q&A discussions). See the detailed instructions further below.
- The blog has an RSS feed if you're into that.
We also tweet from @BroadFireCloud, and we have a calendar of events that lists upcoming workshops, conferences and so on.
Finally, when necessary we send out emails to all registered FireCloud users, if we need to communicate something particularly important. You do not need to do anything to get those. We use this channel very sparingly to avoid inconveniencing our users.
Here's how to turn on the forum notifications in your profile:
By default, the forum does not send notification messages about new comments or discussions. If you want to turn on notifications or customize the type of notifications you want to receive (email, popup message etc), you need to do the following:
- Go to your profile page by clicking on your username in the white box at the top left corner, underneath the blue path box;
- Click on the button with a silhouette of a person at the top right corner and select "Edit Profile" in the drop-down menu;
- In the menu on the left, click on "Notification Preferences";
- Select the categories that you want to follow and the type of notification you want to receive; For example, to specifically get new FireCloud announcements, scroll down to "Category Notifications" and tick off the "FireCloud Announcements" category for email notification for discussions (and comments if you really want to know everything).
- Be sure to click on Save Preferences.
