October Lesson #2

For the second lesson in October we continued working on Habit #2 and also focused on some social skills that included self-regulation, obeying rules and self-control. One of the main social skills we have been working on is being in charge of your body (controlling your hands and feet) and regulating your personal responses (you are in charge of you). To do this we played a game during the counseling classroom time.

In Kindergarten, we played a game called "All Birds Fly" in which the students flapped their arms like bird wings when they heard the counselor call out the name of something that could fly (bluebird, plane, Superman). If the counselor called out the name of something that could NOT fly (dog, cat, Counselor Cody) and the student flapped their wings, then they were out until the next game. This allowed us to really work on our listening skills and controlling our bodies.

In 1st grade, we played a game called "Sleeping Giants" in which the students had to listen to directions from the counselor and then follow those directions for various amounts of time. When they were "asleep" they couldn't move, or they would be out until the next game. Check out the pics and short video below for some of our students in action!

The giants are on the move!!!
