Our October lesson we are learning about Habit #2:

Begin With The End In Mind - Have A Plan!

Habit #2 says that I plan ahead and I set goals. I look for ways to be a good student in my classroom and a good citizen in my community. I do things with a purpose.

I Kindergarten we shared a story about Goob Bear and Jumper Rabbit and how they wanted to make some money. They decided they need a plan to make the money and came up with selling lemonade. While Jumper Rabbit didn't have a plan for the money he would make, Goob Bear did and made a list and a budget of what he should use his money on. By following his plan, Goob Bear was able to pay for everything on his list and even had some extra money left over. Jumper Rabbit spent his money on things that broke or weren't as meaningful and he had no money left over. He did NOT have a plan. Goob Bear was able to follow his plan and achieve his goals!

In Kindergarten we used the example of going to the store and seeing a toy that they wanted really bad! The students were able to Think-Pair-Share with others in their classroom and answer the following:

Did they get the toy right then, or did they have to wait? Did they have to do chores or things to earn the toy? If they did get the toy right then, how much did they appreciate it? Where is that toy now? If they had to earn it, how much did they appreciate it? Where is that toy now? We ended up with some great discussion and answers to this one example.

In 1st Grade we focused on the same Habit #2, but with more emphasis on setting goals and what we had to do to achieve those goals. We started to explore about thinking "long-term" and how our decisions now can have an effect on our future. We also did Think-Pair-Share with others in the classroom and discussed:

What is a goal? What is a goal that I would like to achieve? What is my plan to achieve that goal?

Answers ranged from being good at math and reading to being a great ball player or good friend. The 1st grade also held some really great discussion and answer time!
