Engineering Design and Development

Engineering Design 11-12 2 Semesters 2 Credits

and Development

Prerequisites: Intro to Engineering Design, Aerospace Engineering or Renewable Energy Technology, and Principles of Engineering Design.

Course Description: In this capstone course, students work in teams to design and develop an original solution to a valid open-ended technical problem by applying the engineering design process. Students perform research to choose, validate, and justify a technical problem. After carefully defining the problem, teams design, build and test their solutions while working closely with industry professionals who provide mentoring opportunities. Finally, student teams present and defend their original solution to an engineering panel. Since the projects on which students work can vary with student interest and the curriculum focuses on problem solving, EDD is appropriate for students who are interested in any technical career path. EDD should be taken as the final capstone PLTW course since it requires application of the knowledge and skills introduced during the PLTW foundation courses.

* College credit is available with successful completion of EOC project from St. Cloud State University.

*Based upon student interest, this class may require an application/interview process.
