Auditing

Auditing gives a student the opportunity to take a course he or she passed for the second time. This happens when a student fails the second semester of a year class and wants or needs the class, i.e., failing semester two of geometry. The student will often audit semester one to have a better grasp of the material before repeating the failed semester. Another example would be auditing the first year of a foreign language class before taking the second year if the student or the instructor did not feel the student was adequately prepared for year two.

A grade will be given for an audited class. The grade will be AU, the same grade given in the past if the grade is not higher than before. If higher, the new grade will be used to replace the old grade, thus improving the student's overall grade point average.

A failed class is repeated, not audited.

NOTE: You may not audit a DMACC class.

CAUTION: Auditing a class counts towards the requirement of 14, 13, or 12 credits per year, but not towards the required 50 credits for graduation as credit has already been earned for an audited course.
