Personal Social Skills L1-

Prerequisite: This class is specially designed for level one students identified with academic behavioral needs, either by individual education programs or referral.

Considerations: one semester elective course, for students with social behavioral needs or an individual educational program.

Course Description: The Personal Social Skills curriculum is designed to teach students appropriate classroom, vocational and community life skills. Students enrolled in Personal Social Skills - L1. Students are provided opportunities to learn and practice basic academic, character, friendship acquisition and workplace skills in structured small group setting.

Personal Social Skills L2-

Prerequisite: This class is specially designed for level two students identified with academic behavioral needs, either by individual education programs or referral.

Math Resource

Assisted Math

Prerequisite: Students in this class also need to be enrolled in the coordinating co-taught class.

Considerations: one semester elective course, for students with math needs or an individual educational program.

Course Description: This course is taken in addition to General Education math courses. The course supports the Content Standards with filling in academic gaps and consists of a preteach/reteach of lessons taught in the general education classroom and Specialized Instruction Needs per the IEP.

Individualized Pre-Algebra

Prerequisite: IEP

Considerations: Least Restrictive Environment

Course Description: This course is designed to support levels of computation including the four basic operations, fractions, decimals, integers, and other skills needed to move into Algebra. This course is designed to fill in the gaps in learning foundational math skills needed to be successful in the general education classrooms.

Individualized Basic Math

Prerequisite: IEP

Considerations: Least Restrictive Environment

Course Description: This course is designed to support basic math operations and connecting the skills learned to everyday math. In addition, this course meets the Specialized Instruction Minutes per the IEP.

Life Skills Math

Prerequisite- IEP

Considerations- Least Restrictive Environment

Functional Life Skills math address skills such as such as basic measurement for cooking, spending money, budgeting, and basic skills needed for independent living.

Study Skills 1 : 9th, 10th graders

Course Description:

Course Description: This class is intended to support students on 21st Century Skills in the area of civic literacy, employability skills, financial literacy, health literacy, technology literacy. This course helps prepare the students in being career and college ready.

Study Skills 2: 11th, 12th graders

Course Description: This class is intended to support students on 21st Century Skills in the area of civic literacy, employability skills, financial literacy, health literacy, technology literacy. This course helps prepare the students in being career and college ready.

EBCE

Prerequisite: IEP

Course Description: This class is intended to assist students with achieving vocational IEP goals. The intent is to assist in the transition from high school to the adult working world. This class offers students an opportunity to complete 1 internship per school quarter. This class provides support during an internship at the job site along with supports in the classroom setting. The students go to their internship sites 4 days per week and attend the classroom setting one day per week. The classroom setting is intended to provide the students with real life skills along with vocational skills. This class provides the students with preparation to go into the working world.

Assisted English 9,10,11,12

Prerequisate: IEP

Course Description: This course is taken in addition to General Education English courses. The course supports the Content Standards with filling in academic gaps and consists of a reteach of lessons taught in the general education classroom and IEP Specialized Instruction needs.

Individual English

Prerequisite: IEP

Considerations: Least Restrictive Environment

Course Description: This course is designed to support levels of reading comprehension including vocabulary building, drawing conclusions, inferencing, and identifying the main idea. It also supports levels of written expression from writing a basic paragraph with a strong topic sentence to completing easy research and writing a simple 5 paragraph essay. This course is designed to fill in the gaps in learning foundational English skills needed to be successful in the general education classrooms.

Level III Peer Physical Education

Prerequisite: IEP

Considerations: Least Restrictive Environment

Course Description: This course encourages peer partnerships with students impacted with demonstrates PE activities and motivates the students with special needs to participate in PE class. The program is designed to be adaptive for the special education students to participate. The same sports are played as in regular PE, but with some modifications of activities and equipment.

Level III Individual Reading

Course Description: The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that all students, even those with the most significant cognitive disabilities, have access to the general education curriculum. This course focuses on the Essential Standards and uses a fair measure of student knowledge of the Iowa Core English Language Arts with modifications at an individualized level.

Course Description:

Peer STEM is a course for peers to help students with learning differences to explore science, technology, engineering and math. This course offers an innovative approach to learning in which students use problem solving skills to tackle hands-on learning activities.

Level III Peer Art

Course Description:

Peer Art provides maximum opportunity for each special education student to have hands-on experiences in producing their art, enhanced by modeling from peers.

Level III Personal Social Skills

Course Description:

Social Skills is designed to enhance the social skills of special education students. Activities will range from group discussions, engaging games, and team building activities. This class will expose students to working together with other students in their class, to achieve a team goal or learn how to take turns.

Level III Life Skills

Course Description:

Life Skills is designed to increase student knowledge and skills necessary for everyday living. The course emphasizes goal-setting, decision making and problem solving, communication, healthy lifestyles and relationships, nutrition, personal safety, citizenship and consumerism.
