English 2A

Prerequisite-English 1A, 1B

English 2A develops skills in literary analysis, writing, speaking, and listening. Students read the play Julius Caesar and the novel The House on Mango Street. Students will learn about logical fallacies and argumentation. English 2A includes a newspaper/research unit. Students will participate in literary circles selecting a literary nonfiction book (possible choices include the following: Into the Wild, The Things They Carried, Tuesdays with Morrie, The Glass Castle, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Hillbilly Elegy, Elena Vanishing, Please Stop Laughing at Me, and Thinking in Pictures:). Throughout the semester, students practice writing skills, with particular emphasis on the literary analysis essay.
