WIN Time

What is it?

During the 2020-2021 school year all students will be required to have 30 minutes of WIN time daily between third and fourth periods. The intent of that time is for teachers to offer both interventions and extensions for students based on data about whether students are achieving the essential standards identified in PLCs.

How will it work?

    • Students will schedule themselves into WIN Time activities on Monday mornings for the week.

    • Students should schedule themselves into the teachers they currently have.

    • Teachers decide how they want to use that time and set their schedule for the week. This could be done during PLC time once a week. Some examples of what teachers have used WIN time for are listed below:

      • intervening through re-teaching or other strategies

      • offering a study session for an upcoming test

      • administering assessment retakes or make-ups

      • facilitating activities for students like a book club, makerspace time, walking club, etc.

    • Teachers can automatically schedule students into their interventions so that during the advisory scheduling time, students will see they have already been requested and don’t have another option. Teachers can also set a limit on how many students they would like at a time.

    • Peer Tutors are available in designated areas to provide help to students.

    • See the FAQ document from FlexiSched HERE.

Where will students go if they are not scheduled for anything?

    • Students can be assigned to a different “zone” around the school building based on where they are during third period. For example, third period PE students could be assigned to the gym. Art and STEM students might be assigned to the commons. Zones could also include the different pods around the new building, the auditorium, etc.

    • Associates could assist in taking attendance in the different zones.

    • If enough different opportunities for intervention, extensions, and other activities are offered, most students would have something scheduled for WIN time and wouldn’t need to go to a zone.
