Honors English 2A

Prerequisites: English 1A and 1B.

Considerations: This option is for 10th graders who seek enrichment in language arts. Honors English 2A is highly recommended for students who plan to take AP English Literature and Composition (11th grade) and DMACC Composition/AP English Language and Composition (12th grade).

Honors English 2A students cover the English 2A curriculum (see the 2A course description below). However, the honors section will provide students with more challenge and rigor. This course will develop the skills required for Advanced Placement English courses.

English 2A Course Description: English 2A develops skills in literary analysis, writing, speaking, and listening. Students will analyze rhetoric, read the play Julius Caesar; the novel The House on Mango Street; and participate in nonfiction Lit Circles. Throughout the semester, students practice writing skills, with particular emphasis on the literary analysis essay.
