Heading to your next presentation or training event? Do your best to demonstrate what you’re communicating and leave the lecture at home. Modeling what you want people to know, do or feel takes teaching out of the realm of abstract talk and shows learners real-world application. It also requires presenters to demonstrate good examples of the right way (or wrong way J) to do something. Participants will pay closer attention as they seek to transfer the concepts they experience firsthand. Just like effective coaches teach players proper game tactics through drills, you too can equip your learners to apply what they are learning by doing not just listening. So, the next time you train, take the opportunity to show, don’t tell!
