Train people using frequent, mini teaching times rather than marathon lectures. Research shows that people remember the first and last thing they see and hear. By breaking your content up into smaller, bite-size chunks, you will increase the number of first and last experiences, which will increase the amount of information people will learn, and remember. For example, students will learn and retain more in two ½ hour sessions than in one two-hour session. Then ‘chunk’ or breakdown the content into manageable topics or points within each ½ hour session. Small bites are tastier than big lumps. A long lumpy lecture will only serve to “Drill ‘Em & Kill ‘Em” and we don’t want that!
