As the year comes to an end, it’s our tendency to evaluate our personal walk with Christ, as well as our ministry. At the November 30th Ministry Meeting, Jack Eggar presented five things that can cripple a ministry or organization, based on Bob Prosen’s book, Kiss Theory Goodbye.
Absence of clear directives – At HQ, we are seeking to refine objectives and align people clearly. Awana's directives are Expand the Reach. Strengthen the Club Experience and Cultivate Community. Are you clear on your top responsibilities and would your ministry team be able to say the same?
Lack of accountability – Performance must be measured against clearly defined goals. Jesus Himself held His followers accountable for their actions. The same could be said for our ministry as we seek to please Him and be good stewards of our time and resources.
Rationalize inferior performance – Scripture is clear that we are to be people who speak the truth in love. Are there conversations you need to have with people who have not held up to the promises or commitments?
Planning in lieu of action – While it is true that people crave vision, we are also called to action. What goals need more than a plan – but “next steps” and action?
Aversion to risk and change – Ask God to reveal areas where you tend to “play it safe” rather than trust Him in your own weakness.
